Over the years of being an entrepreneur I have seen many people create a life and income that we all dream about. You know.. the life where you can fire your boss, wake up when you want, travel when you want and make enough money to never have to worry about bills again! Sounds fabulous right?!
I have also seen people create a life where it looks good to the public, but deep down it is miserable. These people accumulate debt just to keep up with those around them, or they spend everything they have to buy things. In return, this obsession to keep up with the Joneses creates financial strain, burdens and teaches you to focus on being selfish.
I was inspired to write this post because there are so many people doing this very thing. Am I saying that nice things aren’t ok? NO! Believe me I like nice things too. In fact, I have expensive taste. I enjoy the finer things in life, but there is a time and place for everything. Putting a family under financial stress to keep up the Joneses is not the right attitude. Sticking to a budget and being wise on what you spend money on is the key.
So don’t go broke keeping up with the Joneses. The Joneses are probably going broke trying to impress you anyway! 😉
