Ever needed to go to a conference or an event without your little one and had to bring your breast pump? Have you ever sat in the audience trying to concentrate but all you can think about is your escape plan to the bathroom to use the breast pump?
I CAN RELATE! This topic is something that working and entrepreneur Moms can relate if they are nursing. Just a few months ago I went to a conference that was an all weekend kinda gig and one day I brought my daughter with me and one day I just brought the pump.
As I was sitting there trying to focus all I could think about was that I needed to use the breast pump.
What does the bathroom look like?
Will I have a comfortable place to sit in privacy?
Are there even outlets?
Will I have to sit on the sink and wave to everyone as they come in and wash their hands?
How many of you have ever been through this before? I feel like I have always been ‘that’ girl in the bathroom with the dreaded breast pump sound like Darth Vader breathing. Everyone knows what I’m doing and even though we are all women, some of them look uncomfortable.
As I was carrying my pump into the bathroom and searching for an outlet and a spot to sit, to my surprise there was NOTHING! What is a girl to do? The battery pack was not working so I couldn’t go sit in the privacy of my car in the parking lot to do my duties. The only thing I could think of was leave. Luckily I lived only 30 minutes from the conference location and believe me when I tell you I was flying home! Doing about 85 on the highway I got home just in time for my daughter to eat and then I could get some relief.
So why am I telling you this story of breast pumps and nursing??
If you are still nursing and go to conferences or events without your little one you are attached to the breast pump. At this stage in your life your life revolves around the baby even though you are trying to get back into the swing of things for your business. Just adapt.
Don’t be afraid to go to conferences and events even though you are nursing. If you don’t bring your baby it is ok to step away for the 15 minutes that it takes to pump and then return back to the event. If you are traveling for your business and have to bring the breast pump, most of them have battery packs that you don’t have to panic to look for an outlet. Most of the time you can head back to the hotel room and pump in privacy there.
I would love to take a stand to have more establishments have comfy rooms with LOTS AND LOTS of outlets. I room specifically for breast pumpin Mamas. How many of you can agree with me??
This post was definitely inspired by my own experiences being a nursing Mom. Comment and share below if you found this post hilarious yet real! XOXO
