I Am Proud To Call Myself A ‘Mompreneur’.. Are You?

I just recently read an article from the New York Times, written by Jill Salzman called ‘Proud to Be a Mompreneur’. In her article she talks about the stigma around the word ‘Mompreneur’.

If you don’t know the definition of Mompreneur it is:

**A multi-tasking woman who can balance both the stresses of running a business as an entrepreneur and the time consuming duties of motherhood at the same time.

She continues to state in her post that she has repeatedly been asked to not mention the word Mompreneur as if that portion of her life doesn’t exist. In her own words, “I’m often told not to bring up the “mom” aspect of what I do when I am asked to speak at business associations, conferences and conventions.”

Now let me ask you, do you agree that if you mention that you are a Mom in the business world that people won’t take you seriously?

Just like Jill I am proud to call myself a ‘Mompreneur’. It is not something that I am embarrassed about it as it is a title that I embrace on a daily basis! This is EXACTLY why I started Rockin Mompreneurs because it is very clear that Moms in business need and want support. We can relate to each other on so many different levels. I also agree that a parent who can juggle both running a family/household AND a business at the same time is someone special.

Being a Mom is a blessing and should not be hidden from the world or your title.

I have also come across many women entrepreneurs who do not like the name Mompreneur. They believe that the title is demeaning and unprofessional.  Mompreneurs start a business around their family because they DO NOT want to work 80 hours a week. Instead what they want is to have the best of both worlds. Your family and business life if what wakes us up every morning. I believe if you want to sell a product/service, get a Mom to love it and back you up and you are golden! We are a force to be reckoned with!

Mompreneurs everywhere should not be ashamed of that word. I love the title because in one short word it explains who I am and what I am about. I embrace and will wear the Mompreneur title with pride and dignity. I feel very accomplished that I have my hands in both of those areas, Motherhood and Entrepreneurship.
