Panna cotta is Italian for “cooked cream” and is considered a traditional Italian dessert. It can be topped with berries or mixed with any other added flavoring. I like it because not only does it taste delicious, but also it’s super simple! For those of you who have a sweet tooth like me, I like easy dessert ideas that can be made in many different ways. However, I like a dairy free, vegan version of Panna Cotta. This recipe is made with coconut milk, agar agar powder instead of gelatin, sugar, alcohol-free vanilla flavoring and that’s it!
Panna Cotta Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cans coconut milk 14 oz cans
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp agar agar powder
- 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
- Add coconut milk and sugar to a medium saucepan. Set over medium heat and bring to a boil. Once at a boil, whisk in agar agar powder. Continue cooking for a few more minutes to let agar agar powder dissolve into coconut milk. Add vanilla and whisk. Be careful to not let it boil over!Pour the mixture into a container, serving bowl or ramekin. Set in the fridge to cool for about an hour or overnight. Top is berries, cacao nibs, honey or anything you want. Skies the limit with panna cotta!
If you saw my post on Instagram or Facebook, I made chia seed pudding and topped it with panna cotta and frozen blueberries. It was FANTASTIC! I also added a little extra fun to it with blue spirulina ;). Blue spirulina was a fun twist to add to the chia seed pudding as it is an electric blue color. Not to mention the benefits are out of this world. I’ll create a post just about that and where I buy it from.
