How many of you MOMpreneurs out there are working your business around little kiddos? My son who is 2 1/2 is AWESOME (I’m totally bias) but at the same time is into EVERYTHING! I can’t turn my back for one minute and he is already either “trying” to play with his baby sister, painting the wall with my nail polish or calling people with my phone! Can any of you relate??
How to run a business from home with an active 2 year old.
Trust me, I don’t have it all together nor do I claim to! There are those days that I need to get things done and I just don’t have it in me to press forward. Those of you who know my son know that he is usually pretty easy going but there are those days where I feel like all I say is “Jaylen, get out of there”, or “No don’t play with that” or “Be gentle with your sister!”
How do you still work through the chaos of having an active 2 year old?
1. Realize what you do is bigger than you.
What do I mean? In your business, it is not about YOU! It is not about what you can accomplish but about what you can do for others. Whether it is helping them with their health, beauty, websites etc. Whatever your niche is, you have a solution for others. That keeps you pushing through on those tough days when you want to throw in the towel.
2. Things will not always be perfect.
He does not always nap at the same time or at all on some days! Just go with the flow. Instead of getting upset about the no-nap days, know that most likely it will be an early bedtime. Shift your business activities until later if possible.
3. Break up your business tasks
If you can not devote 2 hours to your business at one time, break up the business tasks. If you had on your to-do list to make some calls, make one call and then play with your toddler. Make another call then play again. This way there is a nice balance between getting things done for your business and spending time with your child. Then your child won’t get frustrated because you are trying to get everything done in one sitting.
4. Be creative!
On those days when I need to devote some undivided attention to my work, I wake up earlier than my kiddos. For example, this morning the baby woke up at 6:45 to eat. After I fed her I sat down to the computer to write a blog post and schedule some social media promoting. During the day if I need to hop on a Webinar or Skype call I will let Jaylen play with the Ipad and do puzzles or flashcards. This usually gives me about 30 minutes to devote to my business.
The great thing about interacting with other MOMpreneurs is that we get it! We understand how challenging yet rewarding it is to work a business from home around your family. Take a deep breath because what you are doing is AMAZING and you aren’t alone! XOXO
